Tour Plan

After being met at Entebbe International Airport you are transferred to a hotel in Entebbe for an overnight stay. Meals : B Accommodation : Windsor Lake Victoria hotel.
You have an early start for the 7hr drive to Kasese at the foot of the Rwenzori National Park. Meals : B Accommodation : Margherita Hotel.
After breakfast, depart for the road head where the porters are allocated, and loads distributed, and you commence the climb. The initial part of the trail passes through farmland before climbing steeply up to Nyabitaba Hut, at 2650m. It is set in a forested ridge with good views of Portal Peaks and Mubuku Valley
After crossing the Bujuku/Mubuku rivers, ascend to John Matte Hut, situated in a grove of giant heather at 3415m.
Cross the Bigo Bog to Lake Bujuku and Bujuku Hut. Wellies are a great help. Although there is a causeway of wooden planks across the bog, the shores are still very muddy.
You have the option to climb Mount Speke, whilst the rest of the group can hike to view the Irene Lakes, or rest for the day returning to Bujuku to overnight.
Ascend to Elana Hut at 4543m. This is the highest point for trekkers who continue on to Kitandara Hut, and meet descending climbers on day 7. Those climbing Mount Margherita begin their ascent from here.
The ascent of Mount Margherita is 5109m. It’s the 3rd highest peak in Africa in the highest range of mountains in Africa. You head off very early to make the most of the usually mist-free mornings. Crampons and ice axes are essential, and you will be roped together for the glacier crossing. Once at the summit, and if it is clear, all the major summits of the Rwenzoris can be seen, as well as the rainforest in the Democratic Republic of Congo 3000m below. You descend to Kitandara Hut, the lower of the 2 Kitandara lakes is one of the most beautiful locations in the Rwenzori Mountains.
A steep climb over the Freshfield Pass, before descending to Guy Yeoman Hut, set in the giant heather zone at 3506m.
A big trek today! A steep descent through the bamboo zone to Nyabitaba Hut, and then straight to the vehicle. You overnight at Margherita Hotel in Kasese. Cold beer or hot shower first? Your choice! Note – for those short of time, a transfer can be arranged from Kasese to the airport at Entebbe for nighttime flights on the same evening
Enjoy a morning game drive or an optional visit to see the chimpanzees in the Kyambura Gorge. This excursion must be booked in advance. Return to Entebbe and overnight in a hotel. Meals : B Accommodation : Windsor Lake Victoria hotel
